In this employee spotlight, see what a day in the life looks like for Kyree Washington, Account Executive at Verkada. Kyree joined as an Associate Account Executive (AAE) in July 2020 and graduated from Verkademy — a training program created to fast track Sales Associates into world class Mid-Market Account Executives — in January 2021.

What is it like working at Verkada’s sales team?

As a whole, Verkada is more of a collaborative environment, and we’re always pushing each other to do more. It’s not within just the sales team, either. You have marketing constantly reaching out to sales, or sales reaching out to operations. Even the exec team is very involved in the actual process of everything that’s going on. At previous companies that I’ve been, the teams are more isolated and separated in terms of the department.

“At Verkada, it’s very much, ‘One team, one dream’ and everyone is willing to help out. Everyone gives credit where credit is due, too. We take time to congratulate each other on the big deals we close or other accomplishments.”

What made you join Verkada?

What brought me here was seeing the tremendous amount of growth that we’ve had in a short amount of time, as well as the amazing products that we have and how we’re revolutionizing the security industry. Verkada has only been around for four years, and the fact that we already have Series C funding is impressive. Our engineering team is also continuously making the product better. With the amount of AI applications that we have, I believe it’s pretty insane how the product is constantly appreciating rather than depreciating.

Who at Verkada has taken a special interest in your success and development?

There’s actually two individuals that I want to mention. Alex Gibbs who is an account executive manager for the Northeast mid-market team now, and Lauren Spears who is the enterprise account executive for the West coast. Both of those individuals helped tremendously in terms of being additional resources. They gave me advice and tips on the sales cycle process, what I should be doing during my calls, and what I can fix within myself to better myself and grow.

The transition from SDR to account executive is when they made the most contribution to my success. There’s a huge learning curve going into an account executive role and I needed guidance on how I should be managing my time and how I should be doing my demos. I talk to them every single day on what I should be doing strategically for accounts. With that kind of constant communication, you get bits and pieces of that you can take back with you.

What do you look forward to every day that you work?

The biggest thing I look forward to is just seeing all the friendly faces and within the office because everyone’s just genuinely happy to see you. We take time to chat with each other and see how we can help each other, even when we’re not in the same department.

In addition, Verkada’s product brings in new and exciting opportunities everyday. Because we need security for every single vertical across the world, I come across new exciting opportunities every other day. If there’s a building, it needs security. And the fact that we’re adding on to our product line just means that we’re going to keep expanding our market that we can actually attack. We’re at a point where we just keep on growing.
